Art and the Self Since the 90's
Working with the curators of this exhibition, this group project will explore themes of the exhibition with the aim of devising ways to engage audiences with the work on display. As a group, you will work with the curators to undertake some foundational primary and secondary research which can add to the overall interpretation of the exhibition.

How Becca & Laura Worked Together
I feel that we have worked very professionally as a pair and that we have been successfully organised and have understood what we have needed to acquire such as research and prototyping within this small idea.
By building up our research together and collectively pushing it further to have the specifics for this idea, we created a specifications sheet for the materials that will be required for the technical aspects of this project. We communicated well with each other sending over via email what work we had done and keeping each other up to date with the project.

-
These images were taken in a gallery in Berlin and this influenced our collaborative idea mind map.
-
Using the idea of note taking and posting memories to reflect on how you feel about the exhibition and gallery space.
-
These images were really inspiring for our group project as it fitted in perfectly with the themes of our project and the objectives we had for completing this.
-
The aims are to include younger audiences to include themselves and to be able to share their experiences within the gallery.
-
As well as interacting with the activities that we have produced for the themes and link in perfectly with the artists works.

Prototype of Our Idea
Pins that have been pinned into a cardboard backing to spell out 'in my shoes' then wrapping yellow and gray yarn to have that spider web appearance that collects the memories and images of visitors.

Having a visual and physical representation of an idea that we want to pitch to the arts council made it easier for us to communicate what we wanted to make for them or with them.

Being creative practitioners it was easier for us all to make or visualise our ideas digitally and physically, connecting the types of tools that we use to present what is in our minds.

This image is a visualisation of what we want our prototype to look like hung within the gallery.
-
This isn't our intended space but we are working with what images we could find that closely replicated what we wanted.
-
Our intended space would be upon a wall within the activity resource centre around the corner from this'll in the photo.
-
Size may vary depending on what our client feels more appropriate to them and the exhibition theme.
-
Height of the piece needs to be taken into consideration for the exhibition incase there is small children interacting with the wall.
-
The safety of how much the nails are nailed into the wood needs to be taken into consideration as all ages of people will be pinning and touching the wall.
-
Also, the way that the wall is mounted and how it is mounted is important. Assuring that they have the right fixtures for the walls so that it is secure when the gallery is open and people are surrounding it, they are confident that it is safe to interact with the piece.

Specification Sheet
Research into types of wood that we could use for our memory wall. Taking into consideration price, weight, density and convenience. Resourcing these materials for easier access was the first thought that we had, the easy it will be to get the materials the cheaper it will be for the gallery. Easier for those who will be putting it all together, two man at the maximum to move it. Easily transported and accessible when requiring the piece out of storage.

-
The wood will need sanding and painting to the exhibition theme colours gray, yellow or white.
-
Assembling together if they need a frame around the panel of MDF. It will also need to be fixed to the selected wall area.
-
Need strong fixings so that the frame doesn’t fall off the wall, as MDF is heavy.
